Short answer: A commercial biometric-access project succeeds when the team validates the door and life-safety requirements first, then defines user enrollment, offboarding, network ownership, battery maintenance, privacy, installation, and support. Hardware selection is only one part of the system.
Ora FacePass supports consultation-led planning for multifamily, office, hospitality, education, rental, and light-commercial projects. Online checkout is intentionally closed while the catalog remains visible. Request project guidance.
Where biometric smart locks can fit
- Multifamily amenity, office, and selected unit-entry doors
- Small offices and shared workspaces
- Hospitality, vacation-rental, and serviced-apartment entry
- Education or nonprofit administrative areas
- Light-commercial sites that need credential flexibility and access records
Suitability depends on the exact door, traffic level, code requirements, network, operational process, and privacy obligations. A smart lock should not replace required panic hardware, egress, accessibility, or fire-door components unless the complete listed assembly and local authority requirements are satisfied.
Start with a door and hardware survey
Create a door schedule with one row per opening. Record door manufacturer and model, material, thickness, handing, bore pattern, backset, latch or mortise type, frame and strike condition, fire label, existing electrified hardware, and available Wi-Fi. Photograph the interior, exterior, door edge, frame, labels, and hardware.
FP01 MY26 is oriented to double-bore deadbolt-and-latch doors. FP02 MY26 fits common U.S. deadbolt preparations. FP03 MY26 is designed for compatible Pella multipoint doors and requires exact mortise verification. See the model comparison.
Define the access policy before enrollment
Document who may enroll users, approve temporary access, review logs, issue backups, and remove access. Define roles for property staff, residents, tenants, guests, vendors, cleaners, maintenance teams, and emergency access. Establish an offboarding service level and a process for lost key fobs, changed phones, and former employees.
Plan biometric privacy and consent
Ora FacePass stores biometric templates on the device rather than online. Your organization still needs a written policy covering notice, consent where required, authorized administrators, retention, deletion, incident response, and applicable laws. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and use case; obtain qualified legal review for your deployment.
Design for connectivity and offline operation
The MY26 product line uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for remote management features. Survey signal strength at each door, separate device administration from guest networks where appropriate, and define who owns router, password, and outage support. Local access methods—including biometrics, PINs, key fobs, and physical keys—provide alternatives when remote features are unavailable.
Build a battery-maintenance program
FP01 and FP02 use 5,000mAh rechargeable batteries with an expected 6–8 months under normal use. FP03 uses a 3,700mAh battery with an expected 4–6 months. Actual runtime varies. Assign a named owner, maintain charged spares where appropriate, schedule inspections, and log replacements. Include front emergency-power access and physical-key custody in the site procedure.
Installation, fire, and life-safety controls
Use a qualified installer for commercial openings, door modification, multipoint hardware, and fire-rated assemblies. Verify egress, accessibility, door closer, latch engagement, strike alignment, and local code requirements. FP01 and FP02 list UL 20-minute fire ratings. FP03 source documents conflict on the duration, so the applicable lock-and-door listing must be confirmed before any fire-rating claim is used.
Pilot before a portfolio rollout
- Select representative doors, including the most difficult existing preparation.
- Confirm fit, handing, network quality, enrollment, access logs, notifications, and backup access.
- Run an agreed pilot period with real administrators and users.
- Document issues, support volume, battery observations, and training needs.
- Approve a repeatable installation and operating standard before scaling.
Commercial project checklist
- Door schedule, photos, measurements, labels, and hardware model numbers
- Door quantity, locations, daily traffic, and rollout phases
- User groups, administrators, onboarding, and offboarding process
- Required access methods and offline contingencies
- Wi-Fi survey and network owner
- Privacy, consent, retention, and deletion policy
- Fire, egress, accessibility, and authority review
- Installer, training, support, battery, and spare-parts plan
- Pilot acceptance criteria and target timeline
