A smart lock can have the right features and still be the wrong fit. Photograph both sides of the door, the edge plate, latch or mortise, and any branding on the door or hardware. Record door thickness, face-bore diameter, edge-bore diameter, backset, handing, and the distance between bores.

  • Double-bore deadbolt plus latch: begin with FP01 MY26.
  • Common U.S. single-deadbolt preparation: begin with FP02 MY26.
  • Compatible Pella multipoint door: begin with FP03 MY26 and verify the exact mortise hardware before any modification.

2. Decide which access methods people actually need

FP01, FP02, and FP03 each provide eight access methods: 3D facial recognition, palm-vein recognition, fingerprint, PIN, temporary code, RFID key fob, physical key, and the Ora FacePass mobile app. A household may prioritize fast hands-free entry and backup keys. A rental or office may place more value on scheduled access, temporary codes, access logs, and centralized user management.

3. Understand biometric privacy and offline access

Ora FacePass stores biometric templates on the lock rather than online. Ask any biometric-access vendor where templates are stored, how credentials are enrolled and removed, who can administer users, and what happens when the internet is unavailable. A physical key and local credentials provide alternate access methods when remote features are unavailable.

4. Compare video features honestly

Ora FacePass video features are access-triggered and are not designed as continuous-recording security cameras. FP02 specifies a 2MP camera, 160-degree field of view, and color night vision. FP01 includes a 2MP camera and two-way intercom. FP03 includes a 2MP video doorbell with color night vision. If continuous perimeter surveillance is required, plan a separate camera system.

5. Plan for battery power and emergency access

FP01 and FP02 use a 5,000mAh rechargeable battery and are rated for approximately 6–8 months under normal use. FP03 uses a 3,700mAh rechargeable battery and is rated for approximately 4–6 months. Actual runtime varies with traffic, Wi-Fi quality, temperature, video use, and settings. Establish a charging owner and schedule for every managed property.

6. Check environment, listings, and the full door assembly

All three MY26 locks list IP65 ingress protection. FP01 and FP02 list an operating range of -31°F to 140°F (-35°C to 60°C). FP01 and FP02 list a UL 20-minute fire rating; FP02 also lists FCC and BHMA certifications. Fire performance depends on the tested lock-and-door assembly. FP03 source documents conflict on fire-rating duration, so Ora FacePass will confirm the applicable listing for the exact assembly before that claim is relied upon.

7. Review administration and smart-home requirements

The Ora FacePass app supports remote lock and unlock, access logs, user management, and scheduled access over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. FP01 and FP02 list compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Confirm network coverage at every door and decide who owns user provisioning, offboarding, incident review, and battery maintenance.

8. Compare warranty and support

Eligible original-consumer purchases are backed by a limited 3-year mechanical, enclosure, and finish warranty and a limited 2-year electronics warranty, plus lifetime technical support.
