Plan biometric smart-lock projects earlier—before the door schedule, hardware set, access workflow, data questions, and responsibilities become change orders. This resource is for architects, specifiers, design-build teams, door consultants, owners, developers, and security professionals evaluating Ora FacePass products for a project.

Ora FacePass currently uses this store as a research, catalog, and consultation experience. Online checkout remains closed. Any product selection should be verified against the exact opening, current model documentation, local requirements, and the project team's professional review.

Decisions to make before specifying a smart lock

  • Opening architecture: single deadbolt, double-bore deadbolt and latch, cylindrical, mortise, multipoint, exit device, or another controlled opening.
  • Door and frame conditions: material, thickness, handing, swing, backset, clearances, strike, closer, weather exposure, labels, and existing hardware.
  • User and credential model: permanent, scheduled, visitor, vendor, emergency, and offboarding workflows across biometric, PIN, RFID, mobile, temporary-code, and physical-key methods.
  • Administration: account ownership, administrator roles, recovery, training, audit or event records, and responsibilities when staff or vendors change.
  • Data and privacy: what is captured, where processing occurs, what is retained, who can access it, how it is deleted, and which notices or alternatives the owner requires.
  • Power and connectivity: battery service, emergency power, signal conditions, app or cloud dependencies, update responsibilities, and degraded-mode operation.
  • Acceptance: submittal evidence, mockup or pilot, commissioning test, exceptions, closeout documents, and ongoing maintenance.

A specification-planning sequence

Programming and basis-of-design research

Define who uses the opening, when access changes, which fallback method is acceptable, what happens during a low-power or connectivity event, and who administers the system. Keep required outcomes separate from optional features.

Door and hardware coordination

Create a door-by-door schedule and identify openings requiring a locksmith, door consultant, hardware consultant, architect, fire-protection professional, accessibility review, manufacturer approval, or authority review. Do not infer complete-opening performance from a lock feature alone.

Submittal and evidence requirements

Request the exact model and accessories, current data sheets, installation instructions, dimensional drawings, compatibility limits, finish information, power requirements, administrator workflow, written warranty, support process, and any project-relevant listings or documentation. Require the proposer to distinguish included, optional, customer-provided, third-party, and unsupported items.

Mockup or pilot

For new workflows or multi-opening deployments, define a representative opening, user group, evaluation window, success criteria, test script, exception owner, and approval date. A pilot should test the physical door, credential operations, administrator workload, maintenance, and user experience—not only unlock speed.

Commissioning and closeout

Test mechanical alignment, each approved credential, authorized fallback, emergency power, controlled key override, administrator access, account recovery, user deletion, alerts, and connected functions. Deliver an opening schedule, settings record, administrator handoff, maintenance plan, warranty and support contacts, and unresolved exception list.

  4. Credential, administrator, visitor, emergency, and offboarding workflows
  5. Biometric, video, event-record, retention, access, and deletion answers
  6. Network, app, cloud, integration, and account requirements
  7. Mockup or pilot plan and commissioning test
  8. Maintenance, training, spares, support, warranty, and escalation information
  9. Itemized pricing, recurring costs, lead-time assumptions, and exclusions

Ora FacePass model-fit starting point

The FP01 MY26 uses a double-bore deadbolt-and-latch architecture. The FP02 MY26 is a compact single-deadbolt model for compatible common U.S. door preparations. The FP03 MY26 is intended for compatible Pella multipoint entry doors. Review the model comparison and verify the exact opening before specifying or modifying a door.

Frequently asked design-team questions

Are BIM objects or specification sections available?

Availability may vary by model and project. Use the consultation form to request the current documentation set rather than relying on an assumed deliverable.

Does the product page establish suitability for a rated or egress opening?

No. Suitability depends on the complete assembly, adopted requirements, documentation, and project-specific professional review.

Can a biometric credential be the only access method?

The required credential and fallback approach should be set by the owner and project team after considering operations, accessibility, privacy, emergency access, and applicable requirements.

Should the project specify a pilot?

A representative mockup or limited pilot is a prudent planning step when the workflow, opening type, connected functions, or operational scale is new to the team.
